Enjoy Listening To Dr. Seuss at Target This Weekend

The Hoffman Murphy Team invites you to join your local  Target store tomorrow, Saturday, February 25^th from 9-11 am for story time with Dr. Seuss. Sponsored by NEA (National Education Association), this event promotes the importance of reading for all ages.

Children and adults alike will have the opportunity to relax, and enjoy readings of The Lorax, a classic tale written and published by Dr. Seuss in 1971. The story introduces children to the importance of the environment and how changes can affect many, if not an entire population.

In addition to reading The Lorax, the celebration of reading will also include goodie bags, special activities, and more. This is truly an event that your children (and maybe even you) will not want to miss!

Be sure to take some time out of your busy Saturday this weekend, and visit your local  Target store to take part in this nationwide event.

The Redondo Beach Fire Company Needs Your Help

The team at Hoffman Murphy loves when we hear of stories where people help one another – no matter the situation. It simply goes to show that there are in fact good people in our world, state, county and even town that will lend a helping hand whenever needed.

Have you ever wished that you could “give back” to our community, but simply don’t have the time, energy or possibly extra funds to do so? There are so many charities and organizations that can benefit from that helping hand, and the Redondo Beach Fire Department is no exception. If you have ever experienced a house fire, you know that these men and women put their lives on the line to save a life of another.

Until Tuesday, February 28, you can vote for the Redondo Beach Fire Department to receive a new, well-deserved, and very much needed kitchen from IKEA, valued at $25,000. The new kitchen will be energy efficient, and filled with smart and innovative ideas to make their lives easier.

Give back to our community, and vote now so our fire company will win that much-needed kitchen makeover. There is no charge, and you may vote as many times as you wish. The fire company with the most votes will win the kitchen makeover – may the best fire company win!

Celebrate Valentine’s Day Any Day With A Gondola Ride

All of us at Hoffman Murphy believe that any day of the year is a day to celebrate how much you appreciate someone in your life. A very romantic way to celebrate your appreciation is to take part in a gondola ride in the Redondo Beach harbor.

Valentine’s Day isn’t the only day of the year to celebrate your appreciation and/or love for another. We should all take the time, several times throughout the year, to show others how much they mean to us. A relaxing boat ride will give you the chance to talk, reminisce, and simply enjoy the surroundings and each others company.

We invite you to celebrate Valentine’s Day any time throughout the year, and take the opportunity to ride a gondola together in the harbor. Take the time to get to know each other, and simply enjoy being together.

The Annual Kite Festival Is Coming To Redondo Beach

The Hoffman Murphy Team is so excited – spring is definitely in the air! The 38^th annual Festival of the Kites will decorate the skies of Redondo Beach on Sunday, March 11^th starting at noon.

This Redondo Beach tradition is one of Southern California’s longest running kite festivals, and attracts residents of Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and more. Children, adults and seniors can bring their kites and take part. There are loads of chances to win prizes, awarded in various categories such as youngest participant or youngest at heart.

Kites may be handmade or store bought, and participants will have five minutes to get their kite to its highest altitude. There are no rules on how large the kite should be or how it is made, however the kite must be able to make it off the ground.

The festival is kicked off by the 9^th Annual Yo-Yo Competition as well as the hot-dog-on-a-stick contest, both taking place on the pier. Entertainment such as a drum circle, martial arts demonstrations and live music will also entertain guests.

Enjoy A Romantic Stroll On The Pier This Valentine’s Day

The Hoffman Murphy Team loves Valentine’s Day. It’s a wonderful time to think about your loved ones, and appreciate everything they do for you, no matter how small. What are you and your “special someone” doing on Tuesday, February 14^th to celebrate Valentine’s Day? The Hoffman Murphy Team has a great suggestion!

Redondo Beach is one of the most beautiful and romantic spots to be on Valentine’s Day. Enjoy a delicious dinner for two while watching the waves, then enjoy a romantic stroll along the pier. There are so many wonderful restaurants along the pier, such as The Crab House, Old Tony’s, and Kincaid’s. Enjoy some ice cream from Beachside while you sit outside and enjoy the waves.

While you’re enjoying each other’s company, stop in at Kobe’s and hand select an oyster. Every oyster at Kobe contains a cultured pearl, and if you’re lucky you may find a rare black pearl. Kobe will then hand-set your pearl in yellow or white gold, or sliver. Don’t forget to visit the Sunshine Kite Company to see what they’re preparing for the upcoming kite festival in March!

Upcoming Changes For Kindergarten Registration in Redondo Beach

The Hoffman Murphy Team loves to bring you news throughout our area, especially when it involves children! We recently noticed in the Beach Reporter that kindergarten enrollment in Redondo Beach was undergoing a couple of changes, and wanted to be sure all of you were aware so that your children are provided the education they deserve!

The Redondo Beach School Board has announced that our state is requiring all children to reach the age of five before they may be enrolled into kindergarten. This change will be fully implemented in all schools throughout the state by the 2014-2015 school year. For the upcoming 2012-2013 school year, all students must have their 5^th birthday by November 1^st to be enrolled. The current cutoff allows 4 year olds to attend kindergarten, and many teachers feel that is too young. This change will ensure children are old and mature enough to start school.

Attention Manhattan Beach Students – Would You Like To Go To Big Bear?

 

All of us at Hoffman Murphy love to let our youth know of upcoming events as well. If you are a middle or high school student in Manhattan Beach, this is only for you!

The City of Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation Teen Center invites all middle and high school students to join them on upcoming snowboarding trips to Bear Mountain! Middle and high school students who live in Manhattan Beach, attend the schools, or who have a parent working there are eligible to join us!

The Teen Center will be taking kids to Bear Mountain on February 4 & 18, and also on March 3. The deadline to sign up and join the fun is four days prior to each trip – be sure to sign up early so you don’t miss out on a great time!
